DONATION FOR A VISION

Bourne History Group has a vision. The vision is that the community and organisations of Bourne come together in partnership to create a better Bourne, a Bourne with a positive identity. We believe that Bourne's heritage plays a vital role in creating this identity.

Presently, there are several groups and organisations who put on good events as an individual entity. We believe if groups communicated with one another then the 'good' events can become 'great' events for all to enjoy, residents and visitors alike, and through this we can obtain a greater footfall within our town. We believe great communication allows groups and organisations to work with each other in a positive way.

We have seen glimpses of this in action when businesses have put on themed window displays, for example, the Queen's jubilee, the King's coronation, Christmas theme etc.

The Bourne History Group have noticed that when these things happen there is a naturally larger 'footfall' within our town.

The Bourne History Group are working on many projects with the intention of increasing the footfall in our town centre. We believe our projects will benefit residents, visitors, and businesses.

There are several ways to achieve this. Bourne History Group are currently working on the 'History on your Doorstep' project. This project involves a trail around the town centre, but a trail with a twist. The information signs are portable and can change location. They also have a QR code which can change the direction of the trail.

We believe the trail will encourage a regular 'footfall' into the town centre as already demonstrated from the successful pilot scheme of 2023.

But that's not all:

The information boards will be interchangeable with a steady supply of new information, new trails, new arts, new stories.

An addition to the Doorstep project will be the 'AR' (Augmented Reality) project. History will literally come to life within the palm of your hand using the technology of your 'mobile device'.

There's more:

It is the vision of the Bourne History Group that we have a History Education and Visitors Centre within the heart of the town to communicate current information about local events, organisations, and businesses to the general public.

It is our vision that this space is then used by the schools and the general public. It is our vision that this space is clean, bright, and people friendly, and that it never stands still, always seeking for continuous improvement.

And as another addition, it is our vision that we create a 3D virtual reality of Bourne through the Ages.

On top of this, we are also engaged in recreating the pillar of our railway occupation 'Bridge 234' at the Rippingale station. There had been an intensive effort and community campaign to save the bridge. After many successful battles, the decision of the SKDC Planning Committee to retain the bridge had been overturned by an inspectorate who ordered the demolition of our local heritage.

However, all was not lost as it is Bridge 234 that we owe thanks to our vision, and for the massive rekindled public interest into our local heritage.

Bourne History Group believe that only when we work together can great things happen.

We are very appreciative of your support. Your donation will help towards our projects and a better Bourne!
