WELCOME

The town of Bourne is not often associated with stone, yet there had been a time when there were many more stone buildings and structures than we see today in the infancy of the 21st century. One only has to look at nearby villages of Morton, Stainfied, Swinstead, and Langtoft to name a few to appreciate there were many stone structures within the locale.

The interest of the stone trail stems from the Bourne castle project, which in turn led to the Bourn Abbey project. When we look around Bourne and see the few remaining stone structures (some are buildings, others are more obscure) then there is a sleight possibility these stones may have originated from either the castle or the abbey.

This is a major reasoning for the stone trail; to identify, to monitor, and to preserve.

Please enjoy the stone trail.

Many thanks
